The country will need a huge amount of liquid fuel to run the new power plants planned by the government. By December next year the required fuel may be 4 or 5 times more than the current usage. In the last fiscal year only 8% of the liquid fuel consumed in the country was utilized for power generation. But in one year from now about 25-30% of the imported liquid fuel will be needed for power generation. There are concerns and questions emerging from this situation. There is a huge cost involved. Moreover, if the oil market becomes volatile again Bangladesh may find itself in a very difficult situation.
.....fuel supply is not reliant on transportation alone. PDB will bear the cost of fuel for power plants. BPC will not be able to import fuel if PDB fails to make regular payment to BPC. The import of fuel will become uncertain. There are questions regarding the ability of PDB to bear the burden if the government fails or delays in providing the promised subsidy. Moreover, if the oil market becomes volatile again Bangladesh may find itself in a very difficult situation.

…the government has initialled contracts for several new plants for buying very expensive power. Now it has to bear huge subsidy. Nation has to pay through the nose for failure of energy sector to act positively in time.
In one and a half year government failed to start coal mining at Phulbari or approve coal policy. It failed to sign PSC in the offshore. Not a single gas well could be drilled, not a single gas supply infrastructure completed. Not a single major base load power plant contract signed.
Look at Petrobangla…they can only give lip services. It is really impossible for government to realise its mega plans in power and energy sector with such non-performer. The mega plan may get stuck in quick sand.
