Heading Towards Uncertainty

Recently I was having chats with a European journalist in New Delhi. He has been following Bangladesh for last one decade. Said the western journalist: It seems you people don’t want to resolve problems in time, rather you kill time, linger problems to turn those into serious crises and then get engaged to resolve them. According to him, when one tries to overcome crises, none raises questions about transparency of the procedures, none sees how much extra money have been spent, and it’s an opportunity for the policymakers. None will agree with the European journalist, specially if one looks into the country’s energy sector. full report

Bangladesh is densely populated country. Large proportions of rural and urban poor traditionally harvest; firewood, vegetation, animal excreta and agricultural residues for domestic cooking. These methods proved to be unsustainable as firewood contributed to higher levels of deforestation. Vegetation covers only 9-10 % of total land, which is lowest as world average. full report
