The BNP-led coalition government is widely criticized for its dismal performances in a number of sectors. But the wrongdoings in the energy sector surpussed the failures in other areas. Despite denial of the failure, the government seems to be nervous with the power crisis heading towards its peak this summer. Even the government machinery did not dare to ask the police to open fire and kill innocent farmers whose only offence was carrying out agitation for electricity. Ironically, State Minister for Power, Iqbal Hassan Mahmood, still claims that the present government is more successful in the sector compared to any previous regime. full report
