Small investors are big resources for Bangladesh’s economy. They can contribute to the development of energy sector. They can play an important role in mobilizing funds for industrialization, setting up power plants and running gas and electricity companies. So the government must take initiatives for allowing them to the capital market under a strong and transparent policy. Experts think the government can strengthen the share market by offloading shares of good companies. The decision of offloading shares of the PGCB and DESCO is very timely and praiseworthy. But it needs smooth implementation. To ensure power for all by 2020, the country will need US$ 16 billion investment. Similar amount of investment will be needed for the development of gas sector. If the government really wants to develop all these energy sectors, it can easily manage a big portion of the required investment by offloading shares of public sector energy companies, experts believe. They observe that the future investors in the energy sector should be allowed with a condition that they will have to go to the capital market.
