Bibiyana Begins

March 1, 2007 is a big day for Bangladesh’s energy sector. On this day comes into operation Bibiyana, the largest gas field being operated by an international oil company in the country. When it will go into production of its full capacity, it will be one of the largest gas fields in Bangladesh. The Bibiyana with reserves of 2.4 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of gas will be a major source of energy for energy hungry Bangladesh. It is also a sign of IOCs’ commitment towards development of Bangladesh, their commitment to work through partnership at local and national level and safety. full report

At long last there has been light at the end of the tunnel. The largest gas field discovered after emergence of Bangladesh is expected to come on stream soon. There may still be some debate whether it is the largest but it is beyond doubt that it is a world-class discovery, which can serve the long-term energy security of the nation. full report
