Editorial
The caretaker government is facing enormous challenges after passing one year in office as many of the tasks it had undertaken after 1/11 remained unfulfilled. The government is trying hard to bring discipline in every sector. The situation has become more critical with the resignation some advisors, though they were replaced without delay. The anti-corruption drive continues but in many other areas the government has failed to properly address people’s real needs and aspirations. Food security is vulnerable while energy security is critical. Prices of essentials are beyond the reach of limited income group despite the government’s regular intervention in the market. Situation in readymade garments sector is alarming with frequent labor unrest. Investment from both local and foreign sources has decreased. The issue of energy prices is yet to be settled. It needs wise and timely decision considering all aspects. The government must ensure optimum use of all available energy resources and make vigorous efforts to find alternative energy sources. With less than a year in hand before handing over power to an elected government, the caretaker government should now concentrate on its priority tasks.
