Bangladesh has no Gas Sector Master Plan, although natural gas constitutes about 90 percent of power generation. In absence of such a plan and lack of effective coordination between the power and gas sectors, country’s energy security has become extremely vulnerable. Wood Mackenzie, the consultant of Petrobangla and World Bank for preparing Gas Sector Master Plan and Strategy for Bangladesh has recently submitted its revised report with comments from various stakeholders. The report must be properly examined, analyzed and considered with due importance to prepare a suitable plan for flourishing the country’s gas resources with the ultimate objective to meet the future challenges and ensure energy security for the 140 million energy-hungry people. The plan must serve the interest of the nation and reflect the aspirations of the people. There is no alternative to such a plan to make the Energy Regulatory Commission fully effective, formulate Gas Act and update the Energy Policy.

The EP congratulates all the valued readers, patrons, advertisers and well-wishers on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha and wishes them a very HAPPY NEW YEAR 2006..
